We're still working on getting over that turkey from last week, but we're also preparing for one of our biggest, best fundraisers of the year: Santa Paws!
For either a monetary donation of $10 per person or a donation of pet supplies from our wishlist on site, you and your pet can have their picture taken with Santa Claus for your Christmas cards! Walton's Greenhouse in Amory has generously offered their location for us to use as grounds for Santa Paws 2016.
Our photographer will be Amory-native Blake McCollum. This is the third year he has donated his time for us, and we're grateful he's doing it again! His work is fabulous and examples of Santa Paws 2015 and his other work can be seen here.
This is our third year having Santa for photos and we're excited that we're having an addition this year! We recently had a new building built to replace the dilapidated one and we want our patrons to come see it! Open House will start the same time as Santa Paws, but at the shelter. There will be treats and a tour of the facility as well as a silent auction for two boxes of brand new toys valued at $250 total! Starting bids will be announced on the day of the event, and the boxes will be available to see (even though they'll be wrapped!) at Walton's Greenhouse. There will be descriptions of what's inside each box available. We encourage you to make the short trip across town to see our new facility!
So here's the information of where, when, and what time:
HWY 278 in Amory
11 am - 2 pm
$10 donation or wish list items
Amory Humane Society Open House
Old Hwy 6, Amory
Directions from Walton's Greenhouse to Amory Humane Society:
Leaving Walton's, turn left. Continue down Hwy 278 until you reach the intersection of 278 and Main Street (there will be El Rey Mexican restaurant and Marathon Gas Station at this intersection). Turn right down Main Street, and follow until you reach the intersection of Hwy 8 and Main Street (there will be Glendale Shopping center and a gas station at this intersection). Continue straight until you reach the first curve in the road (1/4 mile past the light). There will be a sign pointing down Old Hwy 6 toward Amory Humane Society.
We hope to see you there!
We're eleven days away from Halloween! Hopefully by now, you've got your costume planned, your candy buckets ready, and your pumpkins on the front porch. (Pst. We've had ours there since the first of September. (-; )
This year, Amory Humane Society will have a place at Amory's Annual Chili Cook-Off. We're going all out for one of the best holidays of the year, and we hope you'll join in all the fun!
Our booth is a host of two events that are going along side-by-side. Jewelry in the Park will be set up primarily at our booth. We have loads of jewelry for sale that was donated as a fundraising tool. And yes! After dark! We'll have some lights up for you to take a good gander and see what you can find! (Don't forget that Christmas is coming up! Gifts galore!)
We'll also have art available for a raffle. Tickets for the art raffle will be five dollars each. The art will be on display throughout the night, and the raffle will be held at the end of the night (about 8 pm). Winners can come and pick up their prizes during the drawing or can pick them up at the shelter. You don't have to be present to win!
There will also be a raffle for a load of cool toys for boys and girls of all ages. We have games, science toys, and books that will be raffled off at the same time as the art. These tickets will be three dollars each. There will be a girl bucket and a boy bucket, but YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH BUCKET YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT YOUR NAME IN. (Putting your name in two buckets requires the purchase of two tickets. One ticket will not go in two buckets!) As the same as the art, winners do not have to be present to win and their prize can be picked up during the raffle or at the shelter.
Along with the jewelry sale, we'll have the Howlin' Halloween Family Fun Fest. We'll be handing out candy as well as have games set up for kids and families to play and win larger prizes.
The games we'll have available are listed here, and are $1 per play.
-Gank-A-Ghoul - Test your precision in this game! Your goal is to knock down as many cans as possible! The size of your prize depends on how many ghoulish characters you can knock off their feet! Knock down all the cans for a big prize!
-Witch's Pumpkin Brew - Reach into the witch's cauldron and grab a pumpkin from the bubbling stew! All of the pumpkins will give you a prize, but one one pumpkin will give a lucky picker a big surprise!
-Spooky Fishin' in the Patch - You'll be given a rod to prove your casting skills and reel in some awesome treats. Throw that line and see what you can catch! A piece of candy? A goody bag? Something cooler?
*We support the Teal Pumpkin Project!*
The Halloween season is supposed to be fun for all. Even those who might have sensitive food allergies! And here at AHS, we'll have prizes for those who have those allergies. If you're just trick or treating, stop by the table with the Teal Pumpkin for your treat. If you're playing games, let us know, and we'll be sure to give you a teal prize instead. We want everyone to have fun this year, and we'll be sure of that through TTP!
All the proceeds that come from Jewelry in the Park and the Howlin' Halloween will go to the Amory Humane Society and help their funding for transports. Transports have become a huge part of the shelter and being sure each furry critter that comes into our care finds a loving, wonderful home not just in the South, but in states as far away as Pennsylvania, Virginia, Missouri, and North Carolina. This way, we're also able to continue taking in more animals that need our help in Amory!
INFO THAT WILL BE AT THE BOOTH:
-We're still taking in shoes! We'll have a bucket to take any shoes you might have for our Wooftrax fundraiser.
-Sheila's Bread! We all love it, and we're taking those orders during this event! Cut-off day will be mid-November (final date announced later). Don't miss out!
-Open House! Our new facility is up and we're excited for you to see it! The open house date will be announced at JitP and HHF! We have some cool features that are being installed to improve the quality of life of our shelter animals, and we think you'll love them!
If you have any questions about this event, please call 662.315.2995 or 662.256.7566.
We'll be posting a few teasers as the event draws closer, and we hope to see you at the Chili Fest! Don't forget that Trent Harmon will be in attendance. (We heard he may sing. You know you wanna come for that!)
Summer is drawing to a close and as the heat (finally!) starts to chill down, it's getting closer and closer to trade your summer clothes for fall ones and chucking those you hate out to the donation pile. But hold it!
Does your donation pile have shoes? If so, we need them! You see, Amory Humane Society has a new fundraiser project that helps not just us, but the thousands of people around the world who don't have shoes. These people walk everywhere--not matter what the terrain--to get the supplies and food their families need to survive. And with Wooftrax, we've taken on a challenge we need your help to achieve.
Between now (September 1) and October 31, we've got a goal to reach. If we can collect 2500 pairs of shoes, Wooftrax will give AHS $1000 for our effort. How cool is that? We win to help our folks by helping other folks!
What can YOU do?
If you have shoes you're willing to donate to us, bring them by the shelter at any time! Leave them with a employee, or drop them on the front porch and we'll get them as soon as we get to the office and add them to our pile!
What condition should they be in?
Shoes that are qualifying for donation to this project should be:
-gently worn and still able to be worn
-still have treads on the soles
-have laces (if applicable)
Any shoes that meet these few requirements will count towards our goal!
Shoes that cannot count towards our goal:
-shoes with holes
-shoes with soles that are separating from the bottom of the shoe
-shoes that have been chewed up by animals or otherwise tattered
-shoes that have been in storage and are mildewed or rotted
We have two months to reach our goal, and we're relying on our faithful supporters to help us get there! If you have any questions about the Wooftrax shoe fund, please call us at 662.256.7566 during normal operating hours and we'll be glad to help.
Now, let's get going!
At Amory Humane Society, we're always looking to educate, inform, and have a little bit of fun on the side. In the past, we shared posts like these on our Facebook page, where after a while, they become impossible to find and the wonderful information there is gone forever.
So thus, the Water Bowl was born! And we're doggone excited!
The Water Bowl will now be the source for all things regarding pet health, care, and even posts about our newest events that we hope you'll attend. Don't freak out though! We're still going to share this information on our Facebook! You'll just get to see it here on AHS webpage, where it'll forever be archived if you ever need to see it again! You can interact with other owners in the comments, and even share a bit of your own information!
So drop by the Water Bowl every once in a while! You might learn something you didn't know.
